A fire erupted early Saturday at Yalıkavak Marina in Bodrum, Turkey, quickly spreading to multiple yachts and resulting in several vessels sinking or sustaining significant damage. The incident, which began around 4:00 a.m. Local time, prompted a large-scale response from firefighters and coast guard teams.
The blaze initially broke out on a motor yacht docked at the marina, and strong winds contributed to its rapid spread to adjacent boats. Marina security and initial fire crews attempted to contain the flames before additional resources arrived.
Firefighters, supported by eight water tankers and nearly 30 personnel, battled the flames from both land and sea. The response also included assistance from the Turkish Coast Guard. The marina is a popular destination for luxury yachts, and the fire underscores the vulnerability of such vessels to rapidly escalating incidents.

LUXURY YACHTS BURNED AND SUNK
Numerous boat owners and crew members rushed to the marina as the fire broke out, attempting to secure their vessels. Some were able to move their yachts to safety before the flames reached them.
According to reports, six yachts were completely destroyed by the fire and sank, even as two others sustained damage. The sunken yachts were approximately 20 to 30 meters (65 to 98 feet) in length.

EXPLOSIONS CAUSED PANIC
The fire was accompanied by a series of explosions, believed to be caused by gas cylinders and fuel tanks on board the yachts, creating a sense of fear and panic among those present.
CREW MEMBER RESCUED
One crew member was reportedly trapped on the yacht where the fire originated. The individual managed to escape by breaking a window and jumping into the sea.

A total of seven motor yachts were lost in the fire, with one sustaining damage.
Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, along with the Commander of the Bodrum Coast Guard, Raşit Gödelek, and the Bodrum Regional Port Director, Tuncay Aydın, were on scene to oversee the firefighting efforts.
“An unfortunate event has occurred,” Mandalinci told reporters, adding that crews were working to extinguish the blaze from both land and sea, and that the cause of the fire was under investigation.
