Russian cross-country skiing star Alexander Bolsjunov has admitted wrongdoing and criticized a rival for allegedly feigning injury during a recent race, an incident now under review by the Russian Ski Association.

– I apologize for the incident that occurred at the finish line, and I believe I acted incorrectly by shoulder-checking my opponent. You won’t see behavior like that from me in the future, and I hope this serves as an example for the younger generation of what not to do after a finish, Bolsjunov said according to Championat.

The “incident” occurred following a Russian cross-country race on Saturday, where Bolsjunov collided with the back of competitor Alexander Bakurov. Bolsjunov was later disqualified.

– It was strange to see video of Bakurov hopping up the stairs on one leg. And afterward, he walked normally without limping, Bolsjunov alleges.

Russian skiers are divided into two camps, with Bolsjunov coached by Yuriy Bordavko and Bakurov trained by the other group led by Egor Sorin. Bolsjunov has directed criticism toward Sorin.

– Regarding Sorin’s group, since the suspension from international competitions two years ago, I have noticed that in every race there has been either a deliberate overlap, a cut, or, as happened in
