borneo FC Samarinda, previously undefeated in the 2025/26 super league season, has suffered consecutive defeats, raising questions about their championship aspirations. The losses to Bali United and Persib Bandung-the latter a 3-1 result on Friday-have significantly tightened the race at the top of the Indonesian league table. With a challenging run of three upcoming matches against fellow contenders, manager Fabio Lefundes faces immediate pressure to address the team’s recent form.
Jakarta –
Borneo FC Samarinda, who previously boasted a perfect record, has now suffered back-to-back defeats in the 2025/26 Super League season. The club faces a challenging stretch of three upcoming matches as they look to regain their footing in the league.
The second loss came on Friday, December 5, 2025, in a rescheduled Week 4 Super League fixture, where Borneo fell 3-1 to host Persib Bandung at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api stadium.
Prior to that, Borneo had tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing 1-0 to Bali United. This followed an impressive run of 11 consecutive victories to start the campaign.

Borneo’s difficult stretch continues with three tough contests against some of Indonesia’s top teams and historically strong clubs.
Fabio Lefundes’ squad is scheduled to visit Persebaya Surabaya on December 20th. They then travel to face Malut United on December 28th.
The new year will see Borneo FC host Persita Tangerang on January 3, 2026. This trio of challenging matches comes at a time when Persib is closing the gap in the standings, with Malut and Persita currently holding down the 5th and 6th positions, respectively.
“We will rest a little to get enough time before facing Persebaya Surabaya,” said Fabio Lefundes, as quoted by I.League.
These consecutive losses have tightened the race at the top of the Super League standings, with Borneo FC’s lead shrinking. Borneo FC now holds just a four-point advantage over Persija Jakarta in 2nd place.
The gap to Persib in third is also only four points, though Persib has played one fewer game than Borneo.
Failure to rebound in the next three matches could see Persija and Persib significantly close the gap. Persebaya, Malut, and Persita will all be looking to capitalize on Borneo’s recent dip in form.
“Of course, there will be an evaluation, but that evaluation will be internal between the coaching staff and the players. However, we will definitely correct some things,” Lefundes stated.
