A 14-year-old boy was critically injured Friday after falling from the roof of an abandoned building in Alcantarilla, Spain, emergency services reported. The incident underscores the dangers of trespassing in derelict structures.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:27 p.m. Local time on Calle de la Comunidad Valenciana, according to the Region of Murcia Emergency Coordination Center. A friend of the boy alerted authorities, stating that the teen had climbed onto the roof of the abandoned warehouse and the roof subsequently collapsed, leaving him injured inside.
Firefighters from the Region of Murcia Fire and Rescue Consortium located the boy inside the building in a semi-conscious state and secured the area for paramedics, La Verdad reported. Paramedics provided on-site treatment before transporting the teenager to the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital’s intensive care unit.
Authorities confirmed the boy’s condition as grave, and he was immediately admitted to the ICU for treatment of his injuries, Europa Press stated.
The rescue operation involved firefighters, local police, and ambulance crews from the Gerencia de Urgencias y Emergencias Sanitarias 061, COPE reported. The incident remains under investigation.
