BRATISLAVA – The latest film from director Braňo Mišík, the comedy Šviháci, is already generating buzz and anticipation ahead of its theatrical release.
Mišík, similarly known for his hit film Nikdy nehovor nikdy, expressed relief following the premiere of Šviháci, noting the culmination of months of operate. „Samozrejme, že keď je film hotový, tak to človek môže vypustiť z hlavy a akoby sa uzavrel veľký cyklus, kde je na začiatku myšlienka a na konci zasadenie posledných titulkov. A za túto fázu som rád… ale tá najdôležitejšia fáza, kedy to príde do kín, aby diváci o tom vedeli, aby sa prišli pozrieť, tá je ešte pred nami,“ the director shared.
While prioritizing entertainment, Mišík aims for Šviháci to resonate with audiences beyond simple amusement. He hopes the film will leave a lasting impression, exploring complex themes with a lighthearted approach. „Mali by sa primárne zabaviť. Je to akoby komplikovaná životná situácia o nevere vyrozprávaná uvoľneným humorným spôsobom. Čiže aj sa zasmejú, ale mali by byť na konci aj dojatí… ale nie v zmysle, že by plakali, ale istá katarzia nejakého pocitu… Systém odpustenia.“ This focus on emotional depth within a comedic framework could broaden the film’s appeal and potentially drive stronger box office results.
Filming took place at the Thermia Palace hotel, a location Mišík specifically envisioned for the project. He revealed he wrote many scenes tailored to the hotel’s unique atmosphere. „Mnoho situácií som dával na tento hotel bez toho, aby by som vedel, že nám to tu dovolia. A keď som prvýkrát prišiel a sedel som aj s pánom riaditeľom, tak hovorím – nechajte nás to urobiť a ja to urobím tak, že budete mať pamiatku, ktorá sa možno dlho nezopakuje,“ Mišík explained. He also praised the city of Piešťany, noting its distinctive spa-town charm, which he felt contrasted with the atmosphere of Bratislava. „Kulisy hotela aj Piešťany majú také čaro, ktoré nemá pre mňa ani Bratislava. Mesto si zachovalo špecifickú malomestskú kúpeľnú atmosféru.“
Mišík also acknowledged that the production wasn’t without its challenges, hinting at occasional disagreements on set while working with prominent actors. The director’s ability to navigate these dynamics will be crucial as the film prepares for its release. The film is expected to benefit from the established fanbase of Mišík’s previous work, and the unique setting could attract both domestic and international audiences.
