Fans of the real-time strategy genre may soon have reason to celebrate, as reports suggest a potential revival of the StarCraft universe in a new form.
According to a report from South Korean website dnews, and subsequently discussed on the ResetEra forum, Nexon has reportedly entered into a collaborative agreement with Blizzard Entertainment to develop new content based on the StarCraft franchise. The project, currently underway as a secret initiative, is said to be a shooter game.
Details remain scarce at this time, but reports confirm that Choi Jun-Ho, a well-known StarCraft mod developer, has been hired to lead the development team. This move suggests a commitment to authenticity and a deep understanding of the StarCraft universe.

The news comes amid speculation that Blizzard is preparing to announce new StarCraft-related projects at BlizzCon in September, as reported by Eurogamer. Several industry insiders have indicated that Blizzard is actively exploring ways to revitalize the StarCraft IP, including a potential return to the shooter genre. IGN previously reported similar insights from Jason Schreier regarding this effort.
This wouldn’t be the first time Blizzard has collaborated with an external developer on a new game; the company previously partnered with NetEase on Diablo Immortal. Given Nexon’s ownership of both Embark, the developer of The Finals and Arc Raiders, this collaboration could potentially yield a high-quality, fast-paced shooter experience. The move highlights the ongoing trend of established gaming franchises exploring new genres to reach wider audiences.
