Brazilians Flock to Paraguay Seeking a “Right-Wing Model” – Migration Surge Sparks Regional Attention

Brazilians are increasingly moving to Paraguay, drawn by what they describe as a conservative political model they associate with right-wing ideals, according to recent reports.

The trend has gained attention as Paraguay sees a notable rise in foreign residency applications. Data from La Nación shows that requests from foreigners increased by 85 percent during the first quarter of the year, reflecting a broader pattern of migration into the country.

Many of those relocating cite Paraguay’s social and economic environment as aligned with their values, particularly in contrast to developments in Brazil. Some have referred to their move as pursuing a “dream of the right,” highlighting ideological motivations behind the shift.

Local media outlets, including ABC Color and Diario HOY, have reported on the growing number of Brazilians settling in Paraguay, noting that residency applications have not only risen but in some cases doubled compared to previous periods.

The phenomenon reflects broader regional movements where individuals seek countries perceived as offering political stability, traditional social policies, or economic opportunities aligned with specific worldviews. Paraguay’s relative affordability and proximity to Brazil have made it an accessible destination for such migrants.

Whereas the Brazilian government has not issued an official response to the outflow, Paraguayan authorities continue to process the increasing volume of residency requests, underscoring the country’s emerging role as a destination for ideologically motivated migration within South America.
