Brian May Dismisses Claims Freddie Mercury Had Secret Daughter

Guitarist Brian May has publicly refuted recent allegations that Queen frontman Freddie Mercury fathered a daughter with a close friend’s wife in 1976, a claim brought to light in a newly published biography.

The claims, detailed in Lesley-Ann Jones’ book Love, Freddie: Freddie Mercury’s Secret Life and Love, suggest that Mercury maintained a close relationship with the woman, now 48, and even entrusted her with 17 volumes of personal journals. The woman, identified only as “B,” alleges a lifelong connection with Mercury and states he provided for her through a private legal arrangement. May responded to the story, stating, “Brian thinks it’s a load of rubbish,” according to actress Anita Dobson, May’s wife.

Dobson, a longtime friend of Mercury, questioned the timing of the revelation, saying, “Why wait this long?” She added, “I knew Freddie really, really well…and I think Brian would trust me with that knowledge.” She also expressed a desire to meet the woman if the claims are true, stating, “we’d all like to meet her.” The revelation comes decades after Mercury’s death in 1991, and raises questions about previously unknown aspects of the iconic singer’s personal life. Jones, the biographer, maintains the woman is credible, stating she spent three and a half years working with her and that she never sought publicity or financial gain. Mercury reportedly began writing the journals upon learning of the pregnancy on June 20, 1976, and continued until shortly before his death from AIDS-related complications on November 24, 1991. Officials have not commented on the validity of the claims beyond May and Dobson’s statements.
