Four Bulgarian nationals have been arrested in Greece on suspicion of involvement in a criminal network engaged in human trafficking, kidnapping, and sexual exploitation, according to reports from Greek state broadcaster ERT. The arrests took place near the city of Farsala in the Thessaly region of Greece.

The suspects – two men, ages 26 and 48, and two women, ages 24 and 44 – are accused of detaining and exploiting fellow Bulgarian citizens in agricultural settings. This case underscores the ongoing challenges of human trafficking and exploitation within Europe.

The investigation began last week after two Bulgarian men contacted emergency services via 112, requesting assistance without initially disclosing their location. Police located the men near Farsala, where they reported having made contact with a compatriot through an internet application approximately one week prior. According to their accounts, this individual and an accomplice transported them to Greece and subsequently confiscated their identification documents. News.bg reports that the victims joined a group of four other Bulgarians who had experienced a similar scheme.

One Bulgarian woman stated that three of the alleged perpetrators abducted her from her village in December 2025 and transported her to Greece, where she was subjected to sexual assault. Trud.bg and Darik News both reported on the arrests and the allegations.

Authorities initiated the investigation following the initial 112 call, as detailed by novini247.com. The case is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
