Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD is expanding its European footprint with a new market entry into Bulgaria. The world’s largest seller of electric vehicles will begin offering the all-electric Sealion 7 and Seal U DM-I plug-in hybrid models in Bulgaria in January, displaying demonstration vehicles in Sofia shopping malls this month.[[2]] This launch represents a significant step in BYD’s broader strategy to capitalize on growing European demand for electric and hybrid vehicles, challenging established automakers with competitive pricing.
The rapidly expanding Chinese automaker BYD has officially entered the Bulgarian market, launching initial sales with two SUV models. Demonstration vehicles are currently on display in two shopping malls in the capital, with official sales expected to begin in January.
The company is initially offering the all-electric Sealion 7 and the Seal U DM-I plug-in hybrid, with plans to expand its lineup to include other export models. This move marks a significant step in BYD’s European expansion, as the company aims to capitalize on growing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Pricing for Bulgaria
The Seal U is expected to be priced between 75,000 and 92,000 Bulgarian leva (approximately $42,000 – $51,500 USD) depending on the drivetrain and equipment level.
The all-electric Sealion 7 is projected to be priced between 79,000 and 97,000 Bulgarian leva (approximately $44,000 – $54,500 USD).
BYD is establishing a new office for Bulgaria and Romania, based in Bucharest, to serve as the importer for the region. The first dealership in Bulgaria is anticipated to be affiliated with “Darucar,” which currently operates as a retailer and official service center for BMW and MINI. Additional dealerships are expected to be announced early next year.
