BYD plans to expand its offerings of affordable electric vehicles in Indonesia, building on the success of its Atto 1 model, the company announced. The move reflects a strategy to broaden access to electric vehicle technology for Indonesian consumers.

Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific’s Sales Division, noted the strong demand for entry-level electric vehicles in Indonesia. The Atto 1, priced under 200 million Indonesian Rupiah, has already achieved sales of 17,000 units in just two months.

Driven by this positive reception, BYD intends to introduce several additional affordable electric vehicle models to the Indonesian market, with plans for launches throughout the year.

“Regarding the BYD Atto 1 in Indonesia, yes, this vehicle has received a lot of attention and set a record for consumer demand,” Liu Xueliang stated during a question-and-answer session in Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

“This has encouraged BYD to introduce more affordable vehicles accessible to many people in Indonesia in the coming years, including in 2026,” he added.

BYD’s factory in Subang, West Java, is slated to begin operations in the first quarter of this year. This facility is expected to produce many of these more affordable models locally.

“By the end of 2025, we will have completed all of our commitments. We have obtained certifications, including SS (standard certificates) for the BYD Subang factory,” Liu explained.

“We have a schedule (for the Subang factory opening) and are accelerating the process. I am still optimistic that the first vehicles from the production line will begin in the first quarter of 2026,” he continued.

In China, BYD offers a range of affordable vehicles beyond the Atto 1, including models like the Yuan Up (also known as Atto 2), Qin L, and e7. While these models are expected to be priced above the Atto 1, they represent potential additions to the Indonesian market.
