Sourdif’s first career hat trick and five-point night led the Capitals to a 7-4 win at Capital One Arena, offering a much-needed boost as they navigate a competitive Metropolitan Division. The win, played before an announced crowd of 18,780, halted a 2-4-2 skid for Washington and extended Anaheim’s losing streak to six games.

Capitals 7, Ducks 4

Justin Sourdif exploded for a career-high five points, including his first-ever hat trick, as the Washington Capitals defeated the Anaheim Ducks 7-4 at Capital One Arena. The offensive outburst propelled the Capitals to victory in a game where both teams showcased their scoring prowess.

The 23-year-old forward struck twice in a span of 3:02 late in the first period, then completed the hat trick with a beautiful finish on a play started by Connor McMichael and Ryan Leonard (one goal, one assist) in the second. McMichael was a key playmaker throughout the night, adding four assists to his stat line.

Alex Ovechkin netted a pair of goals, and John Carlson (one goal, one assist) added an empty-netter to round out the scoring for Washington (22-15-6). The Capitals, who had dropped their previous two games and six of their last eight (2-4-2), needed a strong performance to get back on track.

Chris Kreider, Alex Killorn, Jacob Trouba, and Beckett Sennecke responded for the Ducks (21-18-3), but Anaheim ultimately suffered their sixth consecutive loss (0-5-1). The Ducks struggled to contain the Capitals’ relentless attack.

Anaheim goaltender Petr Mrazek was pulled in the third period after allowing five goals on 24 shots. Lukas Dostal entered the game in relief, stopping three shots.

Washington’s Charlie Lindgren was stellar in net, turning aside 41 shots to secure the win.
