Orlando Cat Café Offers Free Admission, Coffee to Federal Workers Affected by Shutdown

The Orlando Cat Café is providing complimentary coffee and access to its Cat Play Area for government employees and their families impacted by the ongoing federal shutdown, offering a respite during a period of financial uncertainty for many.

Customers affected by the shutdown can make reservations online as usual at www.orlandocatcafe.com and simply present proof of employment upon arrival. “We really wanted to do something for those affected, including their families,” said Sandra Cagan, owner of the Orlando Cat Café. “Spending time with the kitties is not only a fun outing for everyone, but it can also help reduce stress.”

The offer comes as research suggests interacting with cats can have tangible health benefits; a study published in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Neurology found cat owners have a 30% lower risk of heart attack or stroke. The Orlando Cat Café, located at 532 Cagan Park Avenue in the Cagan Crossings Town Center – approximately 4 miles west of Disney’s Animal Kingdom – currently houses between 18 and 28 adoptable cats and kittens. Those interested in learning more about adoption can visit the Adoption page.

The café’s gesture aims to provide a small measure of relief during the shutdown, which began yesterday, October 5th, and has left hundreds of thousands of federal workers facing furlough or working without pay. Cagan stated the café will continue to offer the complimentary services for the duration of the shutdown, providing a comforting environment for those affected.
