The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added a veteran presence to their secondary on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, officially signing defensive back Jonathan Moxey. While he may be later in his career, the move provides a quality addition at cornerback for a team with a clear necessitate at the position.
Ottawa also made a splash, officially bringing aboard linebacker Brian Cole II. The American standout should immediately bolster the Redblacks’ special teams unit after recording 19 tackles in that phase of the game with Hamilton last season.
The pace of announcements is picking up as teams finalize deals, but so far, most moves have been expected. The question now is: who will deliver the first surprise of free agency?
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced a pair of signings, adding Canadian defensive complete Kene Onyeka and American offensive tackle Eric Lofton. Onyeka could provide depth and allow the Tiger-Cats to utilize a Canadian at defensive line, while Lofton could step into a starting role at tackle with both Jordan Murray and Brendan Bordner expected to test free agency.
Reports indicate ongoing discussions between Winnipeg and veteran Canadian defensive back Nick Hallett, according to John Hodge. A return to the Blue Bombers remains a possibility for the core special teamer.
It’s worth noting that new Redblack Demerio Houston initially reached an agreement with B.C. Before that organization changed course and withdrew the offer. This serves as a reminder that no deal is truly final until it’s officially signed.
Winnipeg also secured a key offensive piece, officially signing receiver Tommy Nield to a two-year contract. Here’s a significant boost for the Blue Bombers’ Canadian receiving corps, which was relying on Joey Corcoran and Gavin Cobb at times in 2025.
The Ottawa Redblacks are making moves, officially adding American defensive back Demerio Houston. He’s expected to upgrade a secondary that has struggled at times.
A standout performance in the West Final has earned Tommy Nield a new contract, and the Blue Bombers are the beneficiaries.
Calgary added Canadian receiver Dejon Brissett, officially announcing the signing after a breakout season with Toronto. Brissett will help maintain the Stampeders’ ratio, with the possibility of carrying three National pass catchers.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers solidified their offensive line, making their two-year deal with All-CFL left tackle Jarell Broxton official. Broxton is likely to move to right tackle, with 40-year-vintage Stanley Bryant continuing to anchor the blindside. That’s a formidable pair of bookends for the Bombers.
This live blog would be more entertaining if it were entirely in Spanish and performed with humanoid grass, but for now, this is all we can offer. Perhaps next year.
The CFL Draft offers a different kind of excitement, but today is all about free agency.
It’s likely the goalpost at the front of the end zone is holding up the announcement of these deals. Expect a flurry of signings once it’s moved.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders entered the fray, signing two former NFL Draft picks in receivers Freddie Swain and Juwann Winfree. While not a traditional CFL free agent move, it’s an intriguing addition to their receiving corps.
The Calgary Stampeders broke the seal, officially signing American defensive back Devodric Bynum. Bynum missed all of last season due to injury but had five interceptions as a rookie with the Elks and is expected to compete for a role at cornerback.
This is almost as slow-paced as the Super Bowl!
If you notify people at work you’re excited about the “big day in sports,” be sure to clarify you mean CFL free agency.
The Edmonton Elks have scheduled a press conference on Wednesday to introduce their 2026 free agent class. The team has yet to officially announce any signings.
Someone remind the teams that the legal tampering window has ended and they can now officially announce deals.
CFL free agency is officially open!
Receive ready…
Let’s…
T-Minus 10 minutes until the chaos begins.
The B.C. Lions are the only team without a reported agreement to date. General manager Ryan Rigmaiden pulled off some quiet acquisitions last year. Will he do it again?
It’s critical to remember that free agency isn’t solely about dollars and cents, but also player health. Several top free agents are coming off major injuries and may not be ready for training camp. You’ll see even concerns that star receiver Dalton Schoen may not play at all next season.
These official CFL jersey photoshops give off a slightly uncanny vibe.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats also made an early addition, signing Global punter Fraser Masin. The Australian was the first overall pick in last year’s Global Draft but had been a free agent after finishing the season on Calgary’s practice squad. He’s expected to compete with Nik Constantinou, who signed in the NFL.
Santos-Knox began his career in Winnipeg and should challenge Kyrie Wilson for the starting job at weakside linebacker.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and veteran linebacker Jovan Santos-Knox have reached an agreement, according to reports. He was released by Ottawa and is free to sign immediately.
Remember that all CFL teams will have more money to spend this year due to revenue growth sharing. Not every dollar counts against the cap due to the use of marketing money, giving teams more financial flexibility.
