The move comes as tensions remain high along the contested border, a region with a history of disputes over territory and resources. As a friendly neighbor to both countries, China has been actively working to de-escalate the situation through diplomatic channels.

“As friendly neighbors and friends of Cambodia and Thailand, China is highly concerned about the current border conflict,” a ministry spokesperson said. “We have continuously engaged in shuttle diplomacy, working in our own way to actively play a role in easing the situation and lowering temperatures.”

The Chinese special envoy for Asian affairs will travel to both Cambodia and Thailand beginning December 18th to encourage dialogue and a peaceful resolution. Officials hope to facilitate a return to negotiations and the restoration of peace along the border.

“The special envoy will once again travel to Cambodia and Thailand on December 18th to engage in shuttle diplomacy, pushing both sides to move towards each other and rebuild peace as soon as possible,” the spokesperson added.
