Boise State Names Max Cutforth Starting Quarterback for Saturday’s Game Against San Diego State

Boise State University announced today that Max Cutforth will make his first career start at quarterback when the Broncos face San Diego State on Saturday, November 12, 2025.

Cutforth, a former walk-on from Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho, stepped into the role after starter Maddux Madsen sustained a lower left leg injury during the November 1st game against Fresno State. He completed 14 of 29 passes for 106 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in that contest. This quarterback change comes at a critical juncture in the season as Boise State seeks to improve its record and potentially contend for a Mountain West Conference championship.

The quarterback expressed his ambition to maintain the starting position, even upon Madsen’s return. “Absolutely,” Cutforth said yesterday during a press conference. “Absolutely that’s what I’m here for. I’m here to play. I’m here to compete and this is just another stepping stone towards that goal.” He added, “It means a lot” to be the first Treasure Valley quarterback to start for the Broncos in over 30 years, noting the last local starter was Travis Stuart in 1992. You can find more information about Boise State football at the official Boise State Athletics website.

Cutforth emphasized the importance of preparation, stating, “Knowing that I’m starting, there’s always more to do…always more film to watch.” He believes the playing time he received against Fresno State will be invaluable. The NCAA provides comprehensive coverage of college football, including injury reports and team updates.

Boise State officials stated they will continue to evaluate Madsen’s progress and Cutforth’s performance on a week-to-week basis.
