CD Projekt, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077, is teasing upcoming celebrations for the game’s fifth anniversary on December 10th. The company recently shared a cryptic image of an “Anniversary & Birthday Calendar” on social media, accompanied by the message “Secure communication channel established. Standby to receive priority transmission,” hinting at significant announcements.
According to reporting from GameSpot, the calendar highlights several key dates. Beyond the December 10th anniversary of the game’s release, an event scheduled for December 12th appears to be connected to Solomon Reed, a character from the Phantom Liberty expansion. The focus then shifts to Song So Mi, another central figure, on December 19th.
Cyberpunk 2077’s journey has been remarkable, particularly considering the rocky launch in 2020. CD Projekt Red dedicated substantial resources to ongoing support, releasing numerous major updates to improve game quality. These efforts culminated in the highly praised Phantom Liberty expansion, which fundamentally revamped core gameplay and introduced features like a robust photo mode. The turnaround has cemented Cyberpunk 2077 as one of the most notable comeback stories in gaming and a top-selling title for CD Projekt Red.
The company is also actively developing a sequel, currently known as Cyberpunk 2, with studios in Warsaw, Vancouver, and Boston. Recent financial reports indicate the development team has grown to 135 people, though the majority of the company’s workforce remains focused on The Witcher 4.
CD Projekt Red aims to expand the Cyberpunk 2 development team to over 300 individuals by 2027. Alongside this, the company has several other projects in the pipeline, including a multiplayer installment in The Witcher series, a new IP codenamed Hadar, a remake of the original Witcher game, and another project based on a CD Projekt IP.
