“À la mi-course, j’ai tenté de débloquer la situation en attaquant, a expliqué le coureur de Visma – Lease a Bike. Seul Tibor a pu me suivre. Sur une portion plate du parcours, j’ai accéléré dans l’intention de le distancer mais il est resté dans ma roue. Lorsqu’il a pris la tête, j’ai senti qu’il avait beaucoup de réserves.“
Le Campinois a ensuite complètement ralenti dans la dernière ligne droite. “Il y avait un fort vent de face et il était donc difficile d’entamer le sprint en tête. Avec le recul, j’aurais peut-être dû attaquer plus tôt, mais j’aurai couru le risque d’un contre de Del Grosso. C’était du sport à l’état pur, homme contre homme. Et il ne faut pas oublier que Del Grosso est un grand talent. Il l’a encore montré aujourd’hui.“

The Campinois rider then noticeably slowed in the final stretch. “Il y avait un fort vent de face et il était donc difficile d’entamer le sprint en tête,” he explained, citing a strong headwind that hampered his sprint. Reflecting on the race, he added, “Avec le recul, j’aurais peut-être dû attaquer plus tôt, mais j’aurai couru le risque d’un contre de Del Grosso.”
