PARDUBICE – A highly anticipated Czech Extraliga matchup between Pardubice and Sparta Prague exploded into a surprising brawl just seconds after the opening faceoff on November 25th.
Dynamo Pardubice forward Jakub Lauko dropped the gloves with Sparta Prague’s Adam Raška a mere five seconds into the game. Both players were assessed five-minute major penalties for fighting and returned to the game after serving their time. Sparta Prague ultimately prevailed 2-1 in overtime, securing a crucial victory in the league standings.
A Pre-Planned Exchange
“We’re good friends, and Adam had a few comments about me in the papers earlier in the season. So we decided to drop the gloves,” Lauko told Oneplay. “I wanted to get the team going, and he had the same idea. Hopefully, the fans enjoyed it; there’s no bad blood.”
The unlikely pairing, former junior teammates who both spent time with the Minnesota Wild organization in the NHL last season, reportedly agreed to the fight during warmups. While Lauko skated on his team’s top line, Raška was elevated to Sparta’s elite forward group specifically for the opportunity.
“I found out about it at the last minute, maybe thirty seconds before the game. I didn’t react much; the guys talked it over, and I have no problem with it. It was their thing, a fair fight,” said Sparta Prague head coach Jaroslav Nedvěd. Pardubice’s coach, Filip Pešán, was unaware of the pre-game arrangement.
Lauko appeared to gain the upper hand in the brief but spirited exchange, taking down his opponent and landing several punches.
