Artist Wu Feng has spoken out against critics who mocked her participation in the Dajia Mazu pilgrimage, saying she could not remain silent in the face of the remarks.

Wu Feng joined the annual nine-day, eight-night pilgrimage, which began on April 17, 2026, and involves the procession of the Mazu statue from Dajia Jenn Lann Temple through multiple towns and cities in central Taiwan.

During the event, she fulfilled a personal vow by helping carry the palanquin, an act of devotion that drew both support and criticism online.

In response to negative comments from some internet users, Wu Feng stated publicly that she felt compelled to defend her actions and her faith.

The pilgrimage, one of the largest religious events in Taiwan, continues to attract hundreds of thousands of devotees each year, with this year’s procession marked by heightened attention to both spiritual devotion and public scrutiny.
