Ukrainian authorities have detained the deputy commander of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky, according to multiple reports from April 17, 2026.
The brigade confirmed the detention in a statement posted to its official Facebook page, stating that law enforcement had taken into custody the officer identified as Deputy Commander Maksym Bobrovskyi, a lieutenant colonel.
According to the brigade’s statement and sources within military circles cited by Ukrainian media, Bobrovskyi is suspected of attempting to solicit a bribe in exchange for facilitating a transfer to another military unit.
The 58th Brigade emphasized its full cooperation with the investigation, saying, “The brigade command fully supports and will in every way contribute to the conduct of the pre-trial investigation. We are interested in a swift, comprehensive, and objective establishment of all circumstances of the case.”
The statement also reiterated the presumption of innocence, noting that “in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and criminal procedural legislation, the presumption of innocence applies. Any final conclusions regarding guilt are possible only after the completion of a thorough investigation and the entry into force of a corresponding court decision.”
The detention underscores ongoing efforts to address corruption within Ukraine’s armed forces, particularly amid the continued Russian invasion.
