The popular German legal drama “Die Kanzlei” is expanding its reach beyond the courtroom with a new film special. Following the series’ success-with previous episodes drawing over 4.5 million viewers-the 88-minute film “Weites Land” (“Wide Country”) finds attorneys Isabel von Brede and Markus Gellert trading legal briefs for farm chores. The film, a departure for the series, centers on an unexpected turn of events that finds von Brede temporarily managing a struggling farm outside hamburg after a chance encounter.
A relaxing getaway takes a dramatic turn for attorneys Isabel von Brede and Markus Gellert in the new German television film, bringing the popular legal drama “Die Kanzlei” to unexpected rural territory. The 88-minute film follows von Brede, played by Sabine Postel, as a wellness retreat leads to an accidental role as a caregiver on a struggling farm.
Von Brede’s planned week of relaxation at the Baltic Sea is derailed when she crashes into the property of farmer Gesine Bröker (Johanna Gastdorf), necessitating hospitalization for Bröker and leaving von Brede to manage the farm, care for Bröker’s elderly, dementia-stricken husband, Gernot (Norbert Stöß), and look after the animals. However, the local community isn’t exactly welcoming, and von Brede finds herself facing resistance due to Bröker’s less-than-stellar reputation in town.
The situation quickly becomes more complex as von Brede gets entangled in a family dispute. She discovers that only Bröker’s granddaughter, Svenja (Johanna Götting), is willing to offer assistance, while her daughter, Annika (Tinka Fürst), and son-in-law, Sönke (Peter Fieseler), remain distant. Leveraging her skills as a perceptive problem-solver, von Brede delves into the family’s history to understand the rift.
Reluctantly, von Brede’s law partner, Gellert (Herbert Knaup), along with his daughter, Charlie (Mathilde Bundschuh), and von Brede’s mother, Marion (Marie Anne Fliegel), arrive at the farm to offer support. Working together, the unlikely team aims to resolve the conflicts and restore harmony. The film, a follow-up to a successful spin-off that drew over 4.5 million viewers, offers a charming backdrop of a romantic countryside farm just outside Hamburg.
