Dionisio Romero University Launches Operations, Offering Technical, Undergraduate, and Graduate Programs
A novel, fully digital university founded by Peruvian businessman Dionisio Romero Paoletti has begun operations in the United States. Dionisio Romero University (DRU), which aims to expand access to higher education, will offer programs at the technical, undergraduate, and graduate levels.
The launch marks a new venture for Romero, who previously led Grupo Romero, a diversified Peruvian business group with over 130 years of history in finance, industry, infrastructure, logistics, and consumer sectors. Details about the university and Romero’s background are available on the DRU website.
According to a recent interview with Gestión, Luciano Velazco Revoredo, CEO of DRU, revealed plans for the new institution. The university has already established eight agreements with institutions in Peru, Mexico, and the United States, operating under a dual-degree model. DRU initially debuts with six degree programs.
“DRU did not arise from a business opportunity, but from the need to expand access for more people to a better future,” Velazco Revoredo stated. The university’s founding reflects a broader trend of institutions adapting to a changing world and seeking to overcome geographical and financial barriers to education.
DRU intends to reach 35,000 students by 2026, according to the report. The emergence of a new, digitally-focused university signals a potential shift in the higher education landscape, particularly as institutions explore innovative models to broaden accessibility and cater to evolving student needs.
