Dominika Cibulková: Reason for Divorce Revealed – Opens Up About Split with Michal Navara

Dominika Cibulková and Michal Navara, who were married for ten years, are now officially separating. The split, which emerged last year, had been a closely watched matter, and the details are now coming to light. “Michal took it very hard. He has looked very distressed for a long time. I feel like he has aged several years. Last week he could no longer bear it and filed for divorce,” a source close to the couple revealed to Šport24. Attempts to salvage the marriage through couples therapy ultimately proved unsuccessful. The former couple share two children, a son named Jakubko and a daughter named Ninka.

Unexpected End to a Long-Term Marriage

Cibulková admitted she would have found it difficult to believe a few years ago that her marriage would end in divorce. “I had a clear idea of my life. Maybe it was related to sports, where you have to have everything planned exactly. And it was the same in this case. We met Michal, got to know each other, traveled, enjoyed life. Then came the wedding, one child, another child, and we also had to deal with everyday life, worries, problems. It wasn’t easy for me as an active athlete to fit into a normal life. But it worked, even if everything wasn’t always ideal, textbook. Over time, there were more problems, it wasn’t easy, but I loved the beautiful image of our family that was there one hundred percent,” Cibulková told the magazine Slovenka.

A Gradual Divergence of Views

Cibulková had always envisioned a lifelong marriage. Fate, however, had other plans. “We really lived a full and beautiful life with Michal. We have two beautiful, healthy children together, for whom we are the best parents and will remain, and even though our paths diverged at one point, I believe we will be able to be friends in the future and realize that those fifteen years together had meaning,” she said in an interview with Slovenka. “But at the same time, Michal and I began to have different views. We were no longer the same twenty-five-year-olds, but each of us had a different perspective on certain things. Sometimes it comes when neither of the two people knows what is happening, they start to judge each other and perceive that it was easy for me to decide how to move on? Is it right to head against each other to please the surroundings?” she pondered, having read various critical comments and remarks about herself on social media.

Finding Freedom After Years of Commitment

“Maybe I finally grew up,” Cibulková reflected. “Someone has always determined my life. I adapted to tournaments, countries, people. Now I have decided for myself. And I must say that in the end it is also good that we are talking about it, because finally I can name the feeling I have inside. And that is freedom. It’s as if something heavy has fallen off my shoulders. I have freed myself from suffering, difficulties, what people will say. From what will happen if my ideal world collapses. Finally, I am myself,” she revealed. “The most important thing is that we are healthy, that our children are healthy. Day by day, I wish to gain back to some normalcy, start functioning well and be okay,” she added.
