Apple has introduced the iPhone 17e, a more affordable addition to its latest smartphone lineup. The novel device, announced today, March 3, 2026, aligns numerically with the current iPhone 17 series while building upon last year’s “e” model. The iPhone 17e offers several key improvements over its predecessor, addressing feedback from users and reviewers.

The new model features a subtle design refresh, including a new, soft pink color option, alongside the standard finishes.

The design retains the aluminum frame and glass back of the previous generation, coupled with a 6.1-inch OLED display, making the iPhone 17e the most compact model in Apple’s current offerings. The display boasts a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels and a brightness of 1200 nits. While Apple hasn’t significantly altered the display technology, it continues to offer a vibrant viewing experience. The phone still features a notch and a 60Hz refresh rate. Durability is enhanced with Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims is up to three times more resistant to scratches.

Updated Chip and New Color Options

Powering the iPhone 17e is the new Apple A19 chip, delivering high performance for gaming and advanced artificial intelligence features. The GPU is one core less powerful than the standard iPhone 17, resulting in a slight reduction in graphics performance. Apple has also increased the base storage to 256GB.

Connectivity remains a strong point for the device. Building on the previous model, which introduced Apple’s own 5G modem, the iPhone 17e features an even more efficient and up to two times faster C1X modem, previously found in the iPhone Air.

MagSafe Support Finally Arrives

Battery capacity and overall battery life remain consistent with the previous generation, but a significant addition is the support for MagSafe. The absence of magnetic wireless charging was a noted drawback of the previous model, and Apple has addressed this with the iPhone 17e. Users can now take advantage of a wide range of accessories, and wireless charging speeds have doubled from 7.5 to 15 watts.

The camera system remains unchanged, featuring a single 48MP sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. Ultra-wide shots or macro mode are not available; the phone offers a 2x hybrid zoom through cropping from a 12MP image. Video recording is still capped at 4K at 60 FPS. Unlike other iPhone 17 models, the 17e does not include the new Camera Control button, which Apple has reserved for its higher-end devices. A standard 12MP FaceTime camera is available for video calls.
