A Belgian man has been convicted after intentionally driving into a group of pedestrians in Seraing on November 3rd, 2025, leaving two injured with long-term disabilities. The incident, which occurred in the parking lot of a local bar, raises concerns about driver conduct in shared public spaces and the potential for serious harm. The driver’s claim of self-defense sharply contrasts with available surveillance footage, highlighting a troubling disregard for pedestrian safety and a subsequent lack of cooperation with authorities.
A driver in Seraing, Belgium, faces charges after intentionally driving into a group of pedestrians on a parking lot, injuring three people. The incident, which occurred on an unspecified date, left two victims with injuries requiring more than four months of recovery.
According to reports, the driver, identified as Aymeric, drove with his headlights off before striking the pedestrians. One man sustained broken ribs after being hit by the vehicle’s side mirror, while another suffered leg fractures after being run over. A third individual sustained minor injuries.
Following the incident, Aymeric drove home and went to sleep before being apprehended by authorities several hours later. Despite a prosecutor’s request for an arrest warrant, a judge released him without detention, and he subsequently refused to appear in court to discuss the matter.
Aymeric claimed he was attempting to leave the parking lot, which he said was crowded with people. “There was a gathering of many people in the parking lot,” he stated. “So I honked my horn to get them to let me pass and when I honked, these people turned towards my vehicle and didn’t let me pass. One of them tried to open my driver’s side door. Another broke my passenger side mirror so I was forced to push through and I accelerated. I thought they wanted to steal the vehicle.”
However, surveillance footage contradicts Aymeric’s account of the events.
“I don’t think I hit anyone. They were all on the side when I accelerated. I’m not crazy enough to want to kill someone with my vehicle,” he added.
The court found Aymeric guilty of causing injuries resulting in work incapacity. Details of the sentencing were reported by DHnet.be. The case highlights the potential for serious consequences when drivers operate vehicles recklessly in pedestrian areas.
