Eddie Murphy says his superpower as a dad to ten children is simply being present.
The 64-year-old actor, who never imagined he’d have such a large family, revealed that his children “enrich his life every day.” Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of his new Netflix documentary, Being Eddie, Murphy explained what he considers his greatest strength as a father.
“My superpower is that I’m always, always present. You can talk to any of my kids at any time of day, and ask them, ‘Where’s your dad right now?’ and they’ll look at the clock and tell you exactly where I am in the house. Dad is always present in their lives, and he always has been,” Murphy told People magazine.
Murphy’s ten children are the result of relationships with five different women. His first son, Eric, was born in 1989 to Paulette McNeely. He then shares five children with his ex-wife, Nicole Mitchell: Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella. He also has a daughter, Angel, with Mel B, and a son, Christian, with Tamara Hood. His youngest children, Izzy and Max, were born to his current wife, Paige Butcher.
The actor’s large family has often been a topic of public interest, and his dedication to being involved in all of his children’s lives is a testament to his commitment as a parent. The documentary, Being Eddie, is expected to offer an intimate look into his personal life and career.
