A beloved local business in Normandy is back in action. Le Comptoir du Fruit, a fruit and vegetable shop in Elbeuf, reopened its doors on october 28, 2025, following a five-month closure. The store’s revival is led by Salim Fadli, a retail veteran who recognized the potential of the established location on Rue des Martyrs and is bringing a renewed focus on fresh, local produce to the area.
A local fruit and vegetable shop, Le Comptoir du Fruit, has reopened its doors in Elbeuf, France, after a five-month closure. The revival of the business, located on Rue des Martyrs in Normandy, is being spearheaded by Salim Fadli, who saw potential in the established storefront.
A Serendipitous Business Opportunity
Fadli, a 15-year veteran of the large-scale retail sector, previously held management positions at Grand Frais and Leclerc, decided to pursue his ambition of owning and operating his own business. The opportunity to acquire Le Comptoir du Fruit presented itself in May 2025, and Fadli acted quickly.
“I first became familiar with the shop around 2018 when a former colleague from Grand Frais worked here,” Fadli explained. “I was immediately captivated by the store’s unique charm.”
When the business went up for sale, Fadli didn’t hesitate. “I knew this was my chance,” he said. A key factor in his decision was the excellent condition of the existing facility. “All that was required was the purchase of the business assets and stocking the inventory,” Fadli noted.
Fresh Produce, Local Cheeses, and Fine Foods
Fadli is committed to sourcing high-quality products, making daily trips to the Marché d’intérêt national (MIN) of Rouen to secure his supplies. This focus on freshness is a key differentiator in a competitive market.
Beyond the fresh fruits and vegetables, Fadli is also offering products from local producers, including yogurts, cheeses, and crème fraîche, adding value and diversifying the store’s offerings. “We’re focused on providing freshness, quality, and a diverse selection of products,” he stated.
Building Customer Loyalty
Fadli expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture, stating, “I’m very happy to be here; it’s a new challenge!” His wife, Yasmina, who is employed in the large-scale retail sector, visited the store to show her support.
“Now, we need to get customers returning,” Fadli continued, acknowledging that a prolonged closure can impact a business. “The store was closed for five months, so word-of-mouth is crucial.”
Le Comptoir du Fruit is located at 13 rue des Martyrs, 76500 Elbeuf, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
