The European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended the authorization of 30 veterinary medicines in 2025, a move that supports animal health and contributes to the broader public health landscape. Of these recommendations, 16 were vaccines, including seven authorized under exceptional circumstances to address animal health emergencies. Five of the newly recommended vaccines were developed using biotechnological processes.
Two of the medicines are specifically intended for utilize in pigs, addressing key health concerns within the swine industry. These include a novel vaccine designed to protect pigs against infections caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, and a hemostatic agent formulated to quickly control bleeding in animals undergoing surgery or experiencing trauma.
