Cairo International Airport authorities detained a former professional soccer player on Friday, Feb. 23, as he attempted to travel to the United Arab Emirates, according to reports. The arrest stems from outstanding legal judgments against the athlete.

Officials identified the man as Amr H. Z. M., known as “Amro Zaki,” and nicknamed “The Bulldozer,” a former player from the Al-Daqahlia Governorate. He was intercepted while boarding an Emirates Airlines flight bound for Dubai.

Authorities discovered Zaki was subject to a travel ban due to ongoing family-related legal issues. Further investigation revealed a one-year prison sentence related to a vehicular accident causing injury in the city of El Alamein. Cairo International Airport security, led by General Abdel Nasser Mowafi, made the arrest.

The former soccer player is now being transferred to the appropriate prosecution office for further legal proceedings, sources said. The case underscores the scrutiny faced by individuals with outstanding legal matters when attempting international travel.
