Augusta University Volleyball Falls to Francis Marion in Straight Sets

The Augusta University Jaguars volleyball team suffered a straight-set loss to the Francis Marion University Patriots yesterday, October 22, 2025, at the Smith University Center in Florence, South Carolina.

Francis Marion secured the victory with scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-18, demonstrating an efficient offensive performance with a .277 hitting percentage for the match. Augusta fought to keep each set competitive, particularly the second, which featured several ties before a late 4–1 run by the Patriots sealed the win. This loss marks Augusta’s first of the season outside of Peach Belt Conference play.

Lauren Nelson and Layne Witherspoon led Augusta’s scoring with eight points each; Nelson recorded seven kills, while Witherspoon tallied five kills, two aces, and two block assists. Mia Saavedra contributed 21 assists and seven digs, and Lauren Posa had 11 kills on a .450 hitting percentage. Libero Giulia Rodrigues anchored the defense with 15 digs. Despite the defeat, Augusta maintains a 17-4 overall record and remains undefeated at 7-0 within the Peach Belt Conference. The team will continue non-conference play on Thursday, October 23, with a 6:00 PM matchup at Middle Georgia State University.
