Fans of Queen’s Blood, the card game within Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, are in for a treat. Square Enix plans to expand the popular mini-game in the final installment of its Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the ongoing development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 with Polygon, revealing plans to enhance Queen’s Blood upon the new game’s release. He confirmed the goal is to deliver a more robust experience than the one currently featured in Rebirth.

Queen’s Blood is a very beloved mini-game, and I think a lot of players still want something like it,” Hamaguchi stated. “I want to expand Queen’s Blood to enhance it and deliver an evolved version when you see Part 3… Queen’s Blood will remain in Part 3, and we simply aim to expand its content.” This expansion reflects a growing trend of developers incorporating deeper, more engaging mini-games into larger titles to enhance player immersion.

While Hamaguchi remained tight-lipped on specific details regarding the enhanced version, he indicated that new cards and side quests are likely additions to enrich gameplay. The original snowboarding mini-game will also return, but will be more than just a simple diversion. “It won’t just be a simple mini-game,” Hamaguchi explained, “but will be integrated within the story and its themes.”

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has featured a variety of mini-games to provide respite from the central conflict between Cloud and his companions against Sephiroth. However, many players are eager to see the story conclude. Hamaguchi assured fans that development is progressing smoothly, and the game is technically playable, with ongoing efforts focused on polishing the experience to deliver a high-quality product.

Square Enix has seen recent success with card games, and Queen’s Blood has proven particularly popular among players, offering a strategic experience with its 145 collectible cards. The game’s popularity underscores the continued appeal of collectible card game mechanics within larger gaming experiences.
