Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 May Receive DLC or Be Expanded Into a Separate Game
Square Enix is currently evaluating options for the continuation of the Final Fantasy VII remake project, potentially including downloadable content for a third installment or even developing it as a full, separate game.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed yesterday that the team is “actively considering” both paths forward, stating, “Things are really up in the air.” This announcement follows the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the remake trilogy, and clarifies that no DLC is planned for Rebirth itself. The original Final Fantasy VII, released in 1997, remains a landmark title in the role-playing game genre and this remake project aims to modernize the story for a new generation of players.
Hamaguchi emphasized the uncertainty surrounding the project’s future, noting the team is weighing various possibilities. He discussed this during recent interviews, including one at Tokyo Game Show 2025. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the conclusion of Cloud Strife’s journey since the initial Final Fantasy VII Remake launched in 2020. More information about the future of the series can be found on the official Final Fantasy VII website.
Square Enix officials have indicated they will announce further details regarding the direction of Final Fantasy VII’s continuation as plans are finalized. The company is committed to delivering a compelling conclusion to the remake saga, whatever form it may take, and will share updates when available.
