Heavy rainfall has caused flash flooding in West Sumatra province, Indonesia, impacting the Maninjau area of Agam Regency on Thursday. The overflow of the Batang Aia Pisang River inundated homes and disrupted transportation routes connecting key regional hubs. Authorities are assessing the extent of property damage and are warning residents to prepare for continued heavy rains and the potential for further flooding, a risk exacerbated by recent landslide-related sediment buildup in the river.
Jakarta –
Heavy rainfall in Maninjau, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra province, triggered flash flooding on Thursday, December 25, 2025, inundating dozens of homes and streets.
The flooding, caused by the overflow of the Batang Aia Pisang River, sent a surge of water and mud through the area, impacting residents and disrupting transportation. The incident underscores the vulnerability of communities to extreme weather events.
“Water accompanied by muddy rocks swept through dozens of homes in Jorong Pasar Maninjau, including the road connecting Lubuk Basung and Bukittinggi,” said Tanjung Raya District Head Al Hafid in Lubuk Basung.

Homes along the Batang Aia Pisang River sustained damage in the floodwaters, though the exact number of affected properties is still being assessed.
“There were no casualties, and the extent of the damage to homes is currently being documented,” Al Hafid stated.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant as rainfall continues in the region, increasing the risk of further flooding.
The area previously experienced flash flooding following a landslide at Kelok 28, which caused sediment buildup in the river. Local government officials have deployed heavy machinery to dredge and normalize the riverbed in an effort to mitigate future incidents.
