Hilary Duff Releases First Single in a Decade, “Mature”
Hilary Duff marked her return to music today with the release of her new single, “Mature,” after a hiatus of over ten years.
The song, released yesterday, is Duff’s first since her 2015 album, “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” Since then, the actor-singer has focused on television roles in shows like “Younger” (2015-2021) and “How I Met Your Father” (2022), while also expanding her family to four children. Duff, 38, shared on Instagram that “Mature” explores a past relationship, describing it as “a brief time with a lover that left me with so many questions… It felt like a good place to start.” This release taps into the growing trend of millennial nostalgia, a powerful force in current pop culture.
Duff signed with Atlantic Records in September and hinted at an imminent return to music, telling Variety last month, “We’re getting something really soon.” She explained her decade-long break, stating, “I needed to feel safe and I needed to have the right people in my corner… Honestly, I needed to have 10 years of life under my belt. I needed a lot to say.” The return is significant as Duff first gained prominence with Disney’s “Lizzie McGuire,” becoming a defining figure for a generation—a fanbase now actively seeking out familiar faces and sounds.
Fans have enthusiastically embraced the new single, flooding social media with support. A docuseries detailing Duff’s musical comeback and personal life is also currently in production. Duff stated on social media earlier this week, “So happy this is finally yours to hear,” signaling a full re-engagement with her music career.
