Hotel booking rates for the Christmas period are showing significant regional disparities, according to newly released data.
Regions like Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and the Paris Île-de-France area are experiencing substantially higher reservation numbers, while others, including Bourgogne Franche Comté, are struggling to meet booking targets. This illustrates a varied performance landscape within the hospitality sector.
Hotel Industry
As of December 10, 2025, hotel bookings for the holiday season stand at 57%.
However, 46% of respondents reported a decrease in bookings compared to the same period in 2024.
Bookings for the winter holidays of 2026 (February-March 2026) currently sit at 28%.
This represents a decline for 60% of respondents when compared to the same time last year.
Restaurant Offerings
For December 24-25 and December 31, 59% of respondents indicated they will be open on December 31st, a higher percentage than for December 24th and 25th, traditionally family-focused holidays.
The average price of a menu (excluding beverages) on December 24-25 is €48.
The average price of a menu (excluding beverages) on December 31 is €78.
68% of respondents have maintained the same pricing as in 2024.
Establishment Closures During the Holiday Season:
- 44% do not find it profitable to open on December 24-25, while for others (28%), it’s to allow staff and management a well-deserved break.
- There is a noted trend of December 31st being celebrated less frequently outside the home, and more often at home with friends and family. There are 41% more closures compared to the same period in 2024 among respondents.
