Apple’s longstanding hardware advantage is diminishing, and new benchmark results suggest Qualcomm’s next-generation chip, set to power the Galaxy S26 Ultra, may surpass Apple’s current offerings.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, scheduled for unveiling tomorrow, February 25, 2026, will feature a special “For Galaxy” edition of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor in all markets. Recent Geekbench testing indicates significant performance capabilities. The phone achieved a single-core score of 3,852 and a multi-core score of 11,738.
For comparison, iPhone 17 Pro models score approximately 3,800-3,900 points in single-core tests. Yet, they lag behind in multi-core performance, achieving scores between 9,700 and 10,000 – representing an approximately 18% advantage for Samsung (and Qualcomm). This competition underscores the ongoing race for processing power in flagship smartphones.
It’s worth noting that the previous generation also showed a multi-core performance advantage for Qualcomm last year. However, Apple maintained a lead in single-core scores at that time, preventing a definitive conclusion.
Final assessments will depend on comprehensive testing of the new Galaxy S26 models, which are expected in the coming weeks as the launch date approaches. The phones will be officially unveiled on February 25, 2026, and will be available for purchase starting in early March. While the base Galaxy S26 and S26+ models are likely to ship with the Exynos 2600 processor in some regions, potentially yielding different results, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the Ultra model appears promising.
