Bulgarian pop-folk star Galena nearly canceled a highly anticipated concert at Arena 8888 after a frightening backstage incident involving her young son, Alex. In a recent interview with bTV’s “120 Minutes,” the singer detailed the harrowing moments before the show, revealing Alex suffered a mouth injury requiring immediate attention. Despite the emotional turmoil, Galena ultimately took the stage, demonstrating remarkable resilience in the face of a personal crisis while also opening up about a previously undisclosed health scare from the past year.
Bulgarian pop-folk superstar Galena faced a terrifying ordeal just 90 minutes before taking the stage at Arena 8888. The singer revealed the frightening incident in a recent interview on bTV’s “120 Minutes.”
The scare involved a mishap with her young son, Alex, backstage – a moment that nearly derailed her emotionally before her biggest concert yet. Galena even considered canceling the show at the last minute.
“He tripped over all the cables, the hall was dark. He’s a little boy – he can’t stay in one place. He tripped, busted his mouth, and a tooth flew out. My legs almost gave way,” the star shared. She admitted that for a moment, she didn’t think she’d be able to go on.
“But I pulled myself together. I mobilized myself for him.”
The singer also spoke about the contrasting personalities of her two sons: “Stefan is very different. He doesn’t like the lights, the cameras. He’s a Cancer – calm, reserved. And Alex loves to brag that I’m his mother. Both are good students and very responsible – they’ve never disappointed me.”
Galena also recalled a difficult period she went through a year ago, a time she had remained silent about for a long time. This revelation comes as Bulgarian pop stars increasingly open up about the pressures of maintaining a public image.
“My situation was very bad – countless performances, sleepless nights… The doctor was adamant: either surgery or I stop singing.” She didn’t even want to discuss the risks.
“I’ve always been an optimist. I didn’t ask him what could happen. I trusted him completely.”
Following the procedure, the singer had to remain silent for 14 days.
“For me, that was a break – and I’m a very talkative person. It was strange to be silent at home, but I managed,” she laughed.
Galena has now fully recovered and hasn’t slowed down her pace at all.
“I prefer not to have a total hit, but not to offend anyone in my songs. We are raising people. I will sing what I love and what touches people,” the pop-folk star stated, reflecting on the content of her music.
