Geely Reportedly Developing Ultra-Efficient Engine Amid Strategic Shift in Southeast Asia
Chinese automotive leader Geely is reportedly advancing its combustion technology with the development of an engine capable of achieving fuel consumption as low as 2.2 liters per 100 kilometers. This development underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency within the global automotive market.

This push for efficiency comes as the company undergoes a strategic realignment of its electric vehicle (EV) footprint. Reports indicate that Geely may be canceling its EV production plans in Thailand to shift its primary focus toward Malaysia. This pivot suggests a tactical reconfiguration of its manufacturing priorities within the Southeast Asian region to optimize operational impact.
Further expanding its regional reach, Bermaz Auto is reportedly in discussions with Geely, as well as Xpeng and Dongfeng, to integrate a Chinese EV brand into its current product lineup. The decision highlights the growing demand for Chinese EV technology in the region and Geely’s role in the evolving competitive landscape of the Asian automotive sector.
