The football community in Ghana is in mourning following a brutal armed attack that claimed the life of a rising young talent.
Tragedy Strikes Berekum Chelsea: 20-Year-Old Forward Dominic Frimpong Killed in Ambush
Dominic Frimpong, a 20-year-old forward for Berekum Chelsea, has died following a violent assault on the team’s bus, the Ghana Football Association confirmed on Monday, April 13, 2026.

The attack occurred as the team was returning from a league match against Samartex, which ended in a 0-1 defeat. According to reports, gunmen opened fire on the vehicle while it was attempting to reverse, striking Frimpong in the head. The young athlete was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries; he was the sole victim of the incident.
In a statement released by the Ghana Football Association, the organization expressed profound grief over the loss. “The Association received the tragic news of the passing of Berekum Chelsea football club member Dominic Frimpong with deep sorrow. This tragic event is a huge loss not only for the club but for all of Ghanaian football. Dominic was a promising young talent who embodied the spirit of our league with his passion and loyalty for the game,” the statement read.
Frimpong was a key part of the squad’s future, having appeared in 13 matches this season and netting two goals. His passing leaves a significant void in the Berekum Chelsea lineup and the wider Ghanaian football landscape.
This incident follows a chillingly similar event in 2023, when a bus carrying the Legon Cities team was attacked after a match against Samartex. Fortunately, that previous encounter resulted in no injuries.
