Istanbul and the broader Marmara region are bracing for intensified rainfall as cold, wet air from the Balkans continues to influence weather patterns, according to Turkey’s Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM).
The agency issued a warning on Tuesday, April 22, 2026, stating that intermittent showers are expected to persist through Friday, with rainfall becoming more pronounced and locally heavy starting in the afternoon hours.
Temperatures are forecast to remain between 12 and 16 degrees Celsius (54 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit), below seasonal norms, before rising to around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) by the weekend as skies clear.
AKOM urged residents to take precautions against potential disruptions from the heavy rain, noting that Istanbul’s reservoir levels currently stand at 70.39 percent.
The weather system has brought prolonged wet conditions to the city, with AKOM confirming that the Marmara region as a whole is under the influence of the Balkan-originating cold front.
Looking ahead, the agency anticipates improved weather over the weekend, dominated by sunshine and a gradual warming trend.
