Eight Israeli soldiers were injured Friday in a barrage of rocket fire from Hezbollah targeting a military post near the Lebanon border, officials said.
Medical authorities reported that four of the soldiers are in critical condition, one is in moderate condition, and the remaining three sustained minor injuries. Among those wounded was the son of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who suffered light wounds.
The incident comes as tensions escalate along the Israel-Lebanon border, with Hezbollah intensifying attacks. Israeli officials estimate the group may expand its operations, having already launched continuous drone and rocket fire toward northern towns, and occasionally further south, according to Yedioth Ahronoth. The increased hostilities raise concerns about a potential wider conflict in the region.
The recent attacks underscore the ongoing volatility in the region and the potential for escalation between Israel and Hezbollah. The injuries to Israeli soldiers, including the finance minister’s son, are likely to further inflame tensions.
