Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
FIFA has officially announced Indonesia as a co-host for the FIFA Series 2026, set to take place in March and April of next year.
This program builds upon the FIFA World Series, a biennial international football competition that pits national teams from different confederations against each other during FIFA Matchday windows.
The announcement means Indonesia will have the opportunity to face some of the world’s top footballing nations outside of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Garuda, as the Indonesian national team is known, could be set for challenging matchups against strong European sides.

The inaugural edition in 2024 featured six series involving 24 teams, divided into six groups of four, with six host nations.
Following the success of the 2024 FIFA World Series, the international governing body has decided to launch the FIFA Series next year for both men’s and women’s national teams. Indonesia has been confirmed as one of the host nations for the men’s competition.
“The FIFA Series aims to create development opportunities for players, coaches, and fans, while also promoting unity and diversity in football through meaningful matches,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the official FIFA website.
“By connecting countries through competition, the FIFA Series seeks to strengthen the sport at every level and bring local communities onto the global stage,” Infantino added.
Numerous nations expressed interest in hosting, but FIFA has selected a group of countries deemed suitable to stage the events.
“The FIFA Series men’s tournament will be held in Australia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mauritius, Puerto Rico, Rwanda, and Uzbekistan,” according to an official FIFA statement.
The inaugural FIFA Series for women’s teams will also take place next year, with Brazil, Ivory Coast, and Thailand serving as hosts.
