Train traffic is completely halted between Stokke and Sandefjord due to a signal failure. An update is expected at 5 p.m.
And the disruptions don’t end there.
The Bratsberg Line between Nordagutu and Notodden is also completely closed due to a track defect. Bane Nor is working to resolve the issue, but the line will not reopen before 6:30 p.m. at the earliest.
Partial closures are also in effect at Porsgrunn Station due to a malfunctioning switch.
These issues have already caused major delays and cancellations throughout the morning of Friday, November 21.
The company also reports a track fault on the other side of Oslofjord, on the stretch between Sarpsborg and Halden.

“There is a complete shutdown between Stokke and Sandefjord due to a fire in a cable,” said VY spokesperson Kaja Rynning Moen.
Bus service is replacing train service between Stokke and Sandefjord.
“There were some delays this morning because this happened at 7 a.m., and the buses didn’t start running until 9 a.m.,” Rynning Moen said.

Accustomed to Waiting
At the station in Tønsberg, several passengers are waiting to reach their destinations. Among them is Hallgeir Austnes, who was scheduled to travel from Sandefjord to Oslo this morning.

“There’s a half hour wait here in Tønsberg before the bus comes. I’m from Sunnmøre, so I’m used to waiting for ferries and things like that,” he said with a smile.

Hoping for a Resolution
VY spokesperson Kaja Rynning Moen said Bane Nor is working to correct the issues, but it is uncertain how long it will take for train service to return to normal.
“It’s uncertain when the Vestfold Line will reopen; it will likely be several hours,” she said.
VY is urging passengers to monitor the VY app for information.
“We are very sorry for this, and we understand that passengers are frustrated. We are doing everything we can to get traffic back to normal,” Rynning Moen said.
