Intel is expanding its push into the graphics arena with the release of XeSS 3, the latest iteration of its upscaling technology [[1]]. the update, delivered via new driver releases, introduces Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) aimed at significantly boosting gaming frame rates, particularly for users of Intel Arc graphics and newer Core ultra processors. This move comes as Intel continues to invest in technologies designed to compete with leading graphics solutions and enhance the PC gaming experience.

Intel Unveils XeSS 3 with Multi-Frame Generation Technology

Intel is rolling out its XeSS 3 upscaling technology with the latest driver update, introducing Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) capabilities designed to boost gaming performance. The new feature offers 2x, 3x, and 4x modes, allowing players to achieve higher frame rates. A key benefit of XeSS MFG is its compatibility with games already supporting the previous XeSS 2 version, eliminating the need for developers to update existing titles.

According to Intel, any game compatible with XeSS 2 and additional frame generation will automatically function with XeSS MFG. The feature can be activated through the Intel Graphics Software control panel, and the company anticipates game developers will also integrate XeSS MFG into in-game graphics settings.

Compatibility and Performance Expectations

XeSS 3 is optimized for Intel Arc graphics cards equipped with XMX blocks, and will be available on both discrete Arc A and B series cards, as well as newer integrated graphics solutions based on Xe2/Xe3 architectures. This expansion aims to broaden the accessibility of the technology across Intel’s graphics portfolio.

Early testing conducted by Tom’s Hardware during Intel’s Tech Tour demonstrated promising image quality with minimal visible artifacts from the generated frames. However, testers noted potential for increased latency when playing fast-paced action games. The findings suggest a trade-off between visual enhancement and responsiveness that players may need to consider.

Driver Updates and Game Optimizations

Alongside XeSS 3 support, the latest Intel Graphics drivers – versions 32.0.101.8425 and 32.0.101.8362 – now support the recently released Intel Core Ultra 3 processors with B390 and B37 GPUs. These updates also deliver broad performance improvements for Intel Arc A and B series graphics cards, and integrated graphics within Core Ultra processors, including those found in Meteor Lake, Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake-S, and Arrow Lake-H platforms.

The updates include enhanced support and performance for titles such as Pragmata, No Man’s Sky, Star Citizen, Ghost of Tsushima, The Finals, Mount & Blade II, and Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Intel also addressed stability issues identified in certain performance benchmarks. These improvements reflect Intel’s ongoing commitment to optimizing its graphics solutions for a wide range of gaming experiences.
