Apple is poised to shift its focus with iOS 27, prioritizing artificial intelligence integration over major visual changes-a move mirroring industry-wide trends. Expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 series this September, following a preview at WWDC in June, the update will build on the visual overhaul of iOS 26 and reportedly introduce important AI enhancements across several core apps and services. Here’s a closer look at the five key upgrades anticipated in the next generation of Apple’s mobile operating system.
Apple’s next major iOS update, expected to be iOS 27, is anticipated to launch alongside the iPhone 18 series in September, following a preview at WWDC in June.
While iOS 26 brought a significant visual overhaul, early indications suggest iOS 27 will heavily emphasize artificial intelligence, rather than interface changes. This shift reflects a broader trend in the tech industry as companies race to integrate AI into their core products.
Here are five potential upgrades expected in the new release, most of which are linked to AI advancements.
1. A Completely New Siri

The most significant update anticipated in iOS 27 is a redesigned Siri, reportedly powered by Google Gemini. Some elements of this could arrive as early as iOS 26.4, but the full version is expected to debut in iOS 27.
That’s according to well-known Apple analyst Mark Gurman. He claims Siri will become smarter in iOS 26.4, but will receive a completely new, chatbot-like interface in iOS 27, making it feel more like ChatGPT than the Siri users are accustomed to.
The new Siri is expected to be more conversational and intelligent, and gain new capabilities, such as analyzing on-screen content and leveraging personal information to provide more relevant and tailored responses.
2. Apple Health+
Alongside Siri’s major AI upgrade, reports suggest Apple may give the Health app a significant update. These reports indicate this will include a new, AI-powered, subscription-based service called Health+, potentially launching as part of iOS 27.
This service is said to include a chatbot, similar to the new Siri, but focused entirely on health data and insights.
Whether this will be genuinely useful or feel like a gimmick remains to be seen, but if Apple can deliver concrete and helpful advice beyond basic statistics, it could become a truly valuable tool.
3. Enhanced Satellite Connectivity
Several upgrades related to satellite connectivity are reportedly in development, and at least some of these may launch with iOS 27.
The biggest news here could be support for 5G via satellite, although it’s possible this feature will be exclusive to the iPhone 18 series, or perhaps only the Pro models.
Reports also indicate Apple is working on satellite-based mapping features in Apple Maps, and that the company may allow sharing of satellite imagery. There are also rumors that Apple will launch a satellite API allowing third-party developers to use the technology in their apps.
If these features become a reality, it could mean fast connectivity in a range of apps and services, essentially anywhere on Earth.
4. An AI-Powered Calendar App

In a post on X Mark Gurman stated that Apple is working on AI-powered calendars for iOS 27.
We don’t know much yet about how this will function, but it sounds like a major overhaul of the existing Calendar app, likely with deep integration with the new Siri experience.
5. Performance Improvements
Based on what has been reported, iOS 27 doesn’t appear to offer many new features beyond those mentioned above. The focus, however, is reportedly on improvements to “quality and underlying performance.”
This also comes from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, who compares the update to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, where the focus was more on refinement than new features.
This is expected to translate to fewer bugs, less unnecessary strain, and an operating system that feels faster, smoother, and more intuitive to use on a daily basis.
