Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian issued an apology to neighboring countries as the conflict with the United States and Israel enters its second week, signaling a potential attempt to de-escalate tensions in the region. The statement, delivered in a televised address on Saturday, March 7, 2026, comes amid ongoing military operations and retaliatory strikes.

Pezeshkian stated, “I apologize to the neighboring countries that have been attacked by Iran.” He clarified that Iran will refrain from targeting its neighbors unless provoked by an attack from them. The Iranian president also asserted that his nation will not concede to pressure from the U.S. And Israel, adding, “The enemies must capture their desire for the Iranian people to surrender to their graves.”

The apology follows a significant escalation of hostilities, including a reported strike by approximately 80 Israeli fighter jets against military and missile facilities in Tehran on Saturday, March 7, 2026. The ongoing military campaign, codenamed Epic Fury and Roaring Lion, has reportedly resulted in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, creating a leadership vacuum and raising concerns about wider regional instability.

In a related development, the Arab League is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting on Sunday, March 8, 2026, to discuss the escalating series of attacks that are spreading throughout the Gulf region. This development underscores growing regional tensions and the urgent need for diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation.

Earlier this week, President Pezeshkian also indicated that mediation efforts should focus on the United States and Israel, not Iran, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that Iran is “committed to lasting peace in the region yet we have no hesitation in defending our nation’s dignity & sovereignty.”

According to reports, Iran’s temporary leadership council has approved suspending attacks on nearby countries – unless an attack on Iran comes from those nations.
