Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport was engulfed in flames Saturday, March 7, 2026, following the latest round of attacks by the Israeli military against the Iranian capital.

Images broadcast by local Press TV showed the airport ablaze in multiple locations, with thick plumes of smoke rising from the airfield, which primarily handles domestic and diplomatic flights.

The airport, along with facilities in Bushehr and Payam in Karaj, have been targeted in recent days by Israeli airstrikes aimed at dismantling Iran’s defense and detection systems.

U.S. Approves Munitions Sale to Israel Without Congressional Review

The U.S. State Department approved a potential sale of munitions to Israel on Friday, March 6, 2026, valued at $151.8 million, and determined that an “emergency” existed allowing it to bypass the standard congressional review process.

The sale includes 12,000 BLU-110A/B general purpose, 1,000-pound bomb bodies, as well as engineering, logistical, and technical support services from the U.S. Government and contractors, according to a statement from the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio determined that an emergency existed requiring the immediate approval of the sale, waiving the usual legislative review process outlined in the Arms Export Control Act. This move comes as the U.S. And Israel coordinate their actions in the war against Iran. The State Department is utilizing emergency authority to expedite the weapons sale to Israel.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said Friday that the U.S. Is “not concerned” about reports that Russia has been providing intelligence to Iran regarding the positions and movements of U.S. Troops in the Middle East.

“Our commanders are aware of everything… We have the best intelligence in the world. We recognize who talks to who… We are not worried about that,” he stated during an interview with U.S. Television.

The White House also downplayed a report earlier Friday that Russia is providing Iran with information on target selection for U.S. Forces amid the war with Tehran. “Clearly doesn’t develop a difference with respect to military operations in Iran because we are completely decimating them,” White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said.
