Pezeşkiyan’s statement comes amid heightened regional tensions following ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, as well as the United States.
Iran’s president, Mesud Pezeşkiyan, stated that his country has not attacked allied nations, but has targeted U.S. Bases and military facilities in the region, according to a message posted on the social media platform X on March 7, 2026.
“Iran has always emphasized the continuation and maintenance of friendly relations with regional countries based on good neighborliness and mutual respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Pezeşkiyan said.
“This does not negate Iran’s right to self-defense against the military attacks of the U.S. And Zionist regime,” he continued.
Pezeşkiyan stated that his country will resist until death to protect itself, adding, “Iran’s defense operations are directed at targets and facilities that are the source and origin of aggressive actions against the Iranian people and we consider them to be legitimate targets.”
Addressing Iranian missile attacks targeting regional countries, Pezeşkiyan said, “We did not attack our friends and allies, but we targeted American bases, facilities, and military installations in the region.”
