Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned on Sunday that adversaries attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz would face a “deadly whirlpool,” according to a statement posted on the social media platform X by the Guard’s naval forces.
The warning came as U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States would impose a military blockade on the strategic waterway, which Iran has effectively closed since the start of the U.S.-Israel conflict.
The Guard’s statement emphasized that “all maritime movement… is under the full control of Iran’s armed forces,” reinforcing Tehran’s assertion of dominance over the strait.
Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, closely aligned with the Revolutionary Guard, claimed that Trump’s threat to impose a naval blockade had “joined Iran’s team,” arguing that the U.S. President’s actions had eliminated analysts’ hopes for declining oil prices.
The agency noted that following a two-week ceasefire and Iran’s conditional agreement to reopen the strait, Brent crude oil prices dropped by approximately 11% to reach $97 per barrel.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global chokepoint for oil transportation, with any disruption posing significant risks to international energy markets and regional stability.
